Maria Dykalo / Paintings
Mariya Dykalo’s oil and acrylic paintings blossom from her plein-air practice. Working between her garden studio and design workshop in West Sussex, she develops richly layered compositions where gestural brushwork and vivid chromatic fields convey the rhythm of living forms. While rooted in direct observation, Dykalo’s paintings extend beyond landscape and floral representation to engage with themes of memory, displacement and renewal. Informed by her Ukrainian heritage and the flower fields of her native homeland, Dykalo’s work reimagines the floral motif as both poetic image and cultural symbol, where beauty and fragility exist in tension with the emotional afterlife of war-torn landscapes.
